Qld:Massive flooding and crocs making repair job tricky

A remote north Queensland town is racing to secure a freshwater supply as widespread
flooding and crocodiles prevent the repair of a pipeline.

Karumba's water pipeline from Normanton has burst .. and fresh water will run out in
as little as three days.

The pipeline is two metres under water and can't be fixed until the floodwaters in
the Gulf of Carpentaria drop .. which is not likely until next month.

So .. a portable water treatment plant is being flown in .. which Carpentaria Shire
Council chief executive MARK KELLEHER says is scheduled to be installed over the weekend.

Meanwhile .. the Thomson River at Longreach is expected to rise slowly and peak at
about 4.6 metres today .. after recent rains.
