TORONTO-DOMINION EYES CYBER OUTLET FOR U.S.

Another large Canadian bank is angling to tap the American market through cyberspace.

This fall, Waterhouse National Bank (WNB) a White Plains, N.Y.-based bank owned by Toronto-Dominion (TD) Bank plans to offer Canadian-based customers Internet banking, said Steve Gesner, vice president of interactive services at TD.

At presstime, WNB was readying to introduce Web banking for U.S. customers, Gesner said. The move dovetailed with TDs May launch of its own Internet banking service, TD Access Web Banking. WNB, which has deposits of $2 billion, is a subsidiary of Waterhouse Investor Services, a Wall Street brokerage that TD acquired in 1996.
