WA: Court orders striking train drivers back to work
Striking train drivers in Perth have been ordered back to work by an industrial court
to restore normal services for weekend commuters.
Members of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union went on strike yesterday after a stopwork meeting
over Enterprise Bargaining Agreement talks with the Public Transport Authority.
The PTA went to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission yesterday afternoon
to seek an order for the employees to return to work.
A spokesman for the Infrastructure and Planning Minister ALANNAH MACTIERNAN says Commissioner
JACK GREGOR has ordered the union back to the commission for talks with the government
tomorrow (Sunday) morning.
Mr MACTIERNAN said last night it would be difficult getting all train drivers back
quickly, but he says he hopes normal services will resume this morning.
